Gandhinagar, March 4 (NationPress) During his three-day visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi toured Vantara, an esteemed wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation facility located in Jamnagar.
Vantara is renowned for sheltering over 150,000 rescued and endangered animals, currently housing more than 2,000 species.
During this visit to one of the largest animal rehabilitation centers, PM Modi explored numerous facilities and engaged closely with diverse animal species.
The Prime Minister visited the wildlife hospital at Vantara, where he received insights into a comprehensive range of veterinary services, including MRI, CT scans, and ICUs. The hospital boasts multiple departments such as Wildlife Anesthesia, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endoscopy, Dentistry, and Internal Medicine.
In a video, PM Modi was seen engaging with and feeding various animals, including Asiatic Lion cubs, a White Lion cub, and a Clouded Leopard cub, which is both rare and endangered. He also interacted with a Caracal cub, among others.
The White Lion cub that PM Modi fed was born at the center after its mother was rescued and brought to Vantara for care.
Once abundant in India, Caracals are now becoming increasingly rare. A breeding program is underway at Vantara to preserve this species, with individuals eventually released back into the wild.
PM Modi also toured the MRI room at the hospital, where he observed an Asiatic Lion undergoing an MRI. Additionally, he visited the Operation Theatre, where a leopard was receiving life-saving surgery after being injured by a vehicle.
The rescued animals at Vantara are kept in enclosures that closely resemble their natural habitats.
The Prime Minister had close encounters with various fierce animals, sitting face-to-face with a Golden Tiger, Snow Tigers rescued from a circus, a White Lion, and a Snow Leopard.
He also interacted with Chimpanzees in an open space, played with an Orangutan previously housed in an overcrowded facility, and closely observed Hippopotamuses and Crocodiles while walking among Zebras, feeding a Giraffe, and a Rhino calf.
PM Modi was briefed on the hydrotherapy pools designed for the rehabilitation of elephants suffering from arthritis and foot issues.
He also learned about the operations of the world's largest elephant hospital and interacted with the dedicated doctors, support staff, and workers who care for the various facilities at the center.
