How Will Nations Justifying Terrorism Be Challenged? Diplomatic Expert Backs PM Modi’s Strong Stance at SCO

New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong declaration at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in China, advocating for a cohesive international approach to countering terrorism and stressing that there must be no double standards in this fight.

Shubashish Banerjee, a prominent diplomatic expert and Founder of the P3 Strategic Think Tank, responded to the Prime Minister's comments, asserting that India's position is both clear and steadfast.

“India consistently maintains a firm stance against terrorism. We have never shied away from confronting such threats directly. With this statement, Prime Minister Modi has reiterated India’s strong commitment — we will pursue terrorism relentlessly,” Banerjee remarked.

He continued, “Any nation that attempts to justify or harbor terrorism will face consequences. There is no place for negotiation or leniency in matters of terror.”

Banerjee emphasized that the SCO Summit has made notable advancements in aligning member states on crucial topics like security, collaboration, and regional growth. However, he pointed out that establishing a stable economic climate necessitates the eradication of terrorism.

“To foster trade, security, and prosperity, we must first eliminate the cancer of terrorism,” he stated.

“India urges all nations — across Asia, Europe, and beyond — to unite in this crucial mission to eliminate terrorism from every corner of the globe.”

In contrast, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appeared to be having an unfavorable experience at the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China. He was seen as 'isolated and dismissed' on stage as PM Modi and Vladimir Putin shared a warm moment.

Last year, Sharif faced an uncomfortable situation during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin when he struggled with his headphones. This year, he was ridiculed online after he approached Putin to shake hands from behind.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi stated that double standards in combating terrorism are unacceptable and called for global unity in this fight.

PM Modi's strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam occurred in the presence of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who was visibly embarrassed.

The member states firmly denounced the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, expressing deep condolences to the victims' families. They asserted that the individuals responsible for such attacks must be held accountable.

However, the most significant embarrassment for Sharif came when Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed support for India in its battle against cross-border terrorism.

On Sunday, PM Modi and President Xi Jinping discussed the issue of cross-border terrorism, with the Prime Minister highlighting that both India and China have suffered from this threat and should collaborate to address it.

“The Prime Minister articulated his perspective clearly and specifically, emphasizing that both China and India have been victims of this scourge, and India continues to fight against it while seeking China's assistance,” stated Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at a media briefing in Tianjin.

It's important to note that China's projects in Pakistan have frequently been targeted by terrorist groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), leading China to urge Pakistan to control these elements and safeguard its projects and personnel.
