Why did PM Modi criticize double standards on terror at the SCO Summit?

Tianjin, Sep 1 (NationPress) In the presence of Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the SCO Summit in Tianjin on Monday, recalling the tragic Pahalgam terror attack and thanking nations that have stood by India. He condemned the double standards exhibited by certain countries that overtly support terrorism.

During his remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Modi firmly criticized these double standards and posed a critical question regarding the acceptance of such conduct by the global community, while reflecting on the recent horrifying terror incident in Pahalgam.

In his opening address, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s stance within the forum, which is centered around three fundamental pillars: security, connectivity, and opportunity.

“Over the past 24 years, the SCO has been pivotal in fostering connections across the Eurasia region. India, as a vital member, has consistently contributed positively. Our vision for the SCO is anchored on three crucial pillars: S for Security, C for Connectivity, and O for Opportunity,” he stated.

Emphasizing the significance of security for progress, PM Modi asserted, “Security, peace, and stability are essential for every nation. However, terrorism, separatism, and extremism pose the greatest threats. Terrorism is not merely a national security challenge but a menace to all humanity.”

“No nation can claim immunity from terrorism. This is why India advocates for unity. In this regard, the SCO RATS has played a critical role, with India spearheading Joint Information Operations to combat Al-Qaeda and affiliated terrorist organizations,” he elaborated.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s unwavering stance against terror financing and any assistance to extremist factions.

Referring to the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the loss of 26 innocent lives, he remarked, “India has endured the consequences of terrorism for over four decades. Recently, we witnessed the most horrific aspects of terrorism in Pahalgam. I express my deep appreciation to the allied nations that have supported us during this tragic time.”

“This incident was not just an assault on India’s essence but a blatant challenge to all nations that uphold humanity. In light of this, we must question whether we should accept countries that publicly endorse terrorism. We should unite in declaring that double standards in the fight against terrorism will not be tolerated,” he emphasized.

PM Modi urged the members of the SCO to adopt a firm collective response against terrorism and work together towards its eradication.
