Mohammed Imtiaz of YSR Congress Party Announces Exit from Politics

Amaravati, Dec 27 (NationPress) Former IAS officer and leader of the YSR Congress Party, Mohammed Imtiaz, announced on Friday that he is stepping away from politics.
Imtiaz made the decision to leave due to personal reasons after having taken voluntary retirement from his bureaucratic career to join the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
He had joined the party in February this year upon the invitation of the then-ruling YSRCP, led by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Imtiaz was selected as the party candidate for the Kurnool constituency during the May Assembly elections, replacing sitting MLA Hafeez Khan. However, he lost the election to T. G. Bharath of the Telugu Desam Party by a significant margin of 18,876 votes.
Following the YSRCP's loss of power, Imtiaz felt that his future within the party was uncertain, leading to his decision to resign.
Since the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance achieved a sweeping victory in the elections on May 13, which resulted in winning 164 out of 175 Assembly seats and 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, several leaders, including three Rajya Sabha members, have departed from the YSRCP.
The YSRCP, which had previously gained power in 2019 by securing 151 Assembly seats, only managed to win 11 seats in this latest election and just four out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
In September, Rajya Sabha members Mopidevi Venkatramna, B. Mastan Rao, and R. Krishnaiah resigned from both their Rajya Sabha positions and the YSRCP. Venkatramna and Mastan Rao have since joined the TDP, with Mastan Rao receiving a nomination to the Rajya Sabha. The BJP has re-nominated Krishnaiah to the upper house of Parliament.
On December 12, former minister Avanthi Srinivas also resigned from the YSRCP, stepping down as the party's in-charge for the Bheemili Assembly constituency and from his primary membership.
In his resignation letter addressed to YSRCP President Jagan Mohan Reddy and the party's North Andhra coordinator Vijayasai Reddy, Srinivas expressed his wish to distance himself from politics for personal reasons.
