Bhopal, March 19 (NationPress) After a grueling 15-hour rescue effort, authorities have recovered five bodies, including two children's, from the Mata Tila Dam reservoir in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, as reported by police sources.

Divers are persistently searching for the two individuals who remain unaccounted for.

The tragic incident transpired around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday when a boat carrying 15 individuals capsized in the reservoir. Out of these, eight individuals managed to reach safety.

The passengers were en route to a religious celebration associated with ‘Faag’ (Holi) at the Siddh Temple, a significant religious site located on an island within the reservoir.

Among the deceased are Sharda Lodhi (55), Shiva Lodhi (8), and Kanha Lodhi (7). The police are yet to confirm the identities of two other victims.

Authorities have indicated that the likelihood of survival for the missing individuals is low. Initially, seven people – comprising three women and four children – were reported missing following the incident.

On Wednesday at approximately 10 a.m., the body of Sharda, spouse of Imrat Lodhi, was recovered from the reservoir.

Shortly thereafter, the bodies of another woman and two children were also found.

Search efforts for the remaining two individuals are ongoing, with the involvement of divers and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Local residents acted promptly, rescuing eight individuals immediately following the accident.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Mohan Yadav, has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased.

According to police, the boat unexpectedly lost stability and overturned during transit. All passengers were from Rajavan village in Shivpuri district and were situated 110 km away from the district headquarters when the incident occurred. The Mata Tila Dam is constructed on the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh but shares its border with Madhya Pradesh.
