Madhya Pradesh's CM Encourages Farmers to Shift to Organic Farming for Healthier Soil
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Barwani, March 2 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav urged farmers in Madhya Pradesh on Monday to embrace natural farming instead of relying heavily on chemicals to sustain soil fertility and mitigate environmental damage from chemical usage.
The Chief Minister emphasized that while the initial costs of natural farming might be lower, it will enhance soil fertility over time, leading to a gradual increase in production capabilities.
He highlighted that the Madhya Pradesh government is dedicated to facilitating the shift from traditional to natural and organic farming methods to enhance soil health and boost farmers' earnings.
Yadav made this statement during the first meeting of the “agriculture cabinet” following the state government's declaration of dedicating 2026 as a year of farmer welfare.
During this event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his cabinet members paid homage to the folk deity Bhilat Dev in the Nimar-Malwa region, praying for the prosperity of the state's farmers.
Yadav also remarked that the residents of Nimar are fortunate to have the sacred Narmada River nearby. He mentioned that by utilizing Narmada water for irrigation, farmers in Nimar are witnessing growth and progress.
“Farmers in the Nimar region, including the Barwani district, are thriving economically by growing a variety of agricultural and horticultural crops. Narmada water is being made available to these farmers through advanced irrigation projects,” he stated.
Post the meeting, Yadav remarked that holding an ‘agriculture cabinet’ session in the tribal district of Barwani demonstrates the state government's strong commitment to farmer development under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
He announced that mustard will now be included in the Bhavantar Yojana to ensure farmers receive fair compensation for their crops. Furthermore, under the Black Gram Incentive Scheme, farmers will receive a bonus of Rs. 600 per quintal for Black Gram.
“Madhya Pradesh is the largest food-producing state in the country, particularly in pulses and oilseeds. The government’s goal is to ensure continuous growth in agriculture and related sectors,” he concluded.
