MP: Ex-MLA Critiques Jitu Patwari After Being Refused Entry at His Home

Bhopal, Dec 9 (NationPress) Shabnam Mausi, the first transgender individual to serve in the Legislative Assembly, has openly criticized Jitu Patwari, the head of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, accusing him of disrespecting the transgender community.
Mausi stated that she attempted to visit Patwari's home for a meeting but was compelled to turn back. The former MLA accused Patwari's representatives of humiliating her and refusing her entry.
"I intended to join the Congress party, which is why I sought a meeting with Jitu Patwari. However, I was barred from entering his residence. He has not only disrespected me but the entire transgender community, and there will be consequences for his actions," Mausi expressed.
The former MLA from Sohagpur (Shahdol) remarked that the Congress party has already weakened in Madhya Pradesh due to such behavior.
“No one will continue to support the Congress party,” she asserted.
Mausi made history by winning the by-elections for the Sohagpur Assembly seat in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh in February 2000, just six years after the transgender community gained voting rights in 1994.
The by-elections were held following the demise of the then sitting Congress legislator, Krishnapal Singh. She triumphed over Lallu Singh with a margin exceeding 17,800 votes, securing her victory as an independent candidate.
However, in the 2003 Assembly elections, she managed only 1,400 votes and faced defeat. In 2008, the Sohagpur constituency was merged during a delimitation process.
Currently, Madhya Pradesh, which previously elected the nation’s first transgender MLA and mayor, lacks any political representation from the transgender community.
Besides Shabnam Mausi, another transgender individual, Kamala ‘Bua’, was elected as the Mayor of Sagar Municipal Corporation in 2009.
