Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday, 10 May announced approvals worth ₹3,818 crore for Madhya Pradesh under the Centre's flagship Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) schemes, targeting rural road connectivity and housing for the poor. The announcement was made during the silver jubilee celebrations marking 25 years of PMGSY in Bhairunda, Sehore district, in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Housing Sanction Under PMAY-G
A sanction of ₹2,055 crore under the PMAY-G scheme was formally handed over to the Madhya Pradesh government. Chouhan stated that eligible families identified through a fresh survey would undergo physical verification before receiving benefits, ensuring no deserving beneficiary was excluded from permanent housing facilities. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to turning the dream of a permanent roof for every poor family into reality.
PMGSY-IV Road Projects
Under PMGSY-IV, Madhya Pradesh received approval for 973 roads spanning a total length of 2,117.52 km at an estimated cost of ₹1,763.08 crore. These projects are expected to benefit 987 habitations across the state. Launching PMGSY-IV at the event, Chouhan described village roads as not merely transportation routes, but gateways to prosperity, dignity, education, healthcare, markets and opportunities.
The Vidisha parliamentary constituency separately received approval for 259 roads covering 600.393 km, expected to benefit 264 habitations. Chouhan confirmed that roads worth more than ₹500 crore would be constructed in the Vidisha constituency alone, stressing that no village should remain deprived of road connectivity.
PM-JANMAN and FY 2026-27 Allocation
Under the PM-JANMAN initiative, road projects covering 384.34 km received approval worth ₹261.81 crore, expected to benefit 168 habitations in backward and underserved regions. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh received ₹830 crore out of the total indicative national allocation of ₹18,907 crore announced for PMGSY for the financial year 2026-27.
Broader Development Agenda
Chouhan also highlighted the Lakhpati Didi campaign, pledging to expand it further through self-help groups across the state and country to advance women's economic empowerment. On agriculture, the Union Minister assured that no eligible farmer would face injustice during wheat procurement operations, with pending verification processes to be completed without discrimination. He added that all roads in Madhya Pradesh fulfilling the norms under PMGSY would be approved following due consideration of demands raised by public representatives and local residents.
This comes as the Centre continues to accelerate rural infrastructure investment ahead of the next budget cycle, with Madhya Pradesh emerging as a significant beneficiary of flagship rural development schemes.
