MP's 'Guard of Honour' drives 25% rise in organ donations in Indore

Madhya Pradesh government's 'Guard of Honour' initiative for deceased organ donors has triggered a more than 25 per cent increase in organ donation cases in Indore, officials confirmed on Monday, 11 May 2025. The ceremonial programme, launched in July 2025, has helped reshape public attitudes toward organ donation in a city that has now emerged as the leading district in Madhya Pradesh for both organ and body donation.

What the Guard of Honour Initiative Does

Indore Divisional Commissioner Sudam Khade explained that the initiative provides ceremonial honours to organ donors during their last rites, formally recognising their contribution to saving lives. Speaking at a meeting of social media influencers held at the Divisional Commissioner's office, Khade said the protocol has been instrumental in raising awareness and building social acceptance around organ donation.
