Jabalpur, March 8 (NationPress) Two kidneys obtained from a brain-dead individual at a government hospital were swiftly transported via a green corridor in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on Friday.

One kidney was sent to Bombay Hospital in Indore, located approximately 500 km from Jabalpur, while the other was delivered to Baderiya Metro Hospital within the city, providing a vital opportunity for those in need of organ transplants.

A man named Puran Choudhary was involved in a road accident, sustaining severe head injuries.

He was taken to Jabalpur Medical College where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

In the course of surgery, a team of neurosurgeons at the Jabalpur district hospital determined that Choudhary's brain had suffered irreversible damage due to a massive stroke.

"A team of doctors from Jabalpur Medical College approached the bereaved family and advocated for organ donation to help those in need. The family consented," stated the Jabalpur district administration.

"Upon receiving the notification, Jabalpur District Collector Deepak Saxena ordered the establishment of a green corridor to ensure the kidneys were safely transported. The deceased's last rites were conducted with state honors in his village," it added.

Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla commended the collaborative efforts of the Jabalpur district administration, police, and medical professionals for setting a commendable example of community service.

"Puran Choudhary's family has given a new lease on life to others by donating kidneys. Their decision will inspire greater participation in organ donation. The Madhya Pradesh government appreciates the exceptional service provided by the district administration and doctors," said Shukla, who also serves as the State Health Minister.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on January 26 that the state would honor those who donate organs. He also stated that a provision would be established to award organ donors posthumously during national festivals.
