Madhya Pradesh plans organ transplant push with Ayushman Bharat expansion
Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Wednesday, 6 May outlined a comprehensive strategy to strengthen organ transplant services across the state, following a high-level meeting in Bhopal with a delegation from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal. The plan covers expanded financial coverage under Ayushman Bharat, upgraded retrieval infrastructure, robotic-assisted surgeries, and a unified digital platform for organ allocation.
Key Decisions from the Meeting
A central outcome of the meeting was a proposal to enhance the existing Ayushman Bharat package for kidney transplants and bring high-cost procedures — including heart and lung transplants — under the scheme's ambit. The state government is also reportedly considering extending support through the Chief Minister's Care Fund to ensure affordability for patients facing end-stage organ failure.
