MP procures 87.71 lakh MT wheat from 12.10 lakh farmers this rabi season
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh has procured 87,71,485 metric tonnes of wheat from 12,10,785 registered farmers during the ongoing rabi procurement season 2026, state Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput announced on Monday, 18 May 2026. The procurement drive, which runs six days a week, will continue until 23 May 2026.
Key Procurement Numbers
Of the total wheat procured, 75,95,792 metric tonnes have already been transported out of procurement centres, indicating a high operational throughput. The state is purchasing wheat at ₹2,625 per quintal — comprising the central minimum support price (MSP) of ₹2,585 per quintal and a state bonus of ₹40 per quintal. Payments totalling ₹10,19,138 crore have been disbursed to farmers so far, according to the Food Department.
Division-Wise Performance
Bhopal division led all regions with 24,62,136 metric tonnes procured, followed by Ujjain at 20,23,374 metric tonnes and Jabalpur at 9,91,141 metric tonnes. Other major wheat-producing divisions also reported significant volumes during the season.
Steps Taken to Ease Farmer Wait Times
The state government has rolled out several operational measures to reduce delays at procurement centres. The deadline for generating weighing slips has been extended from 6 pm to 10 pm, and bill issuance now continues until midnight. The number of weighing scales at each centre has been raised from four to six, with district administrations authorised to add more if needed.
'Steps like increasing the number of weighing scales and extending timings were taken to avoid delays for farmers at procurement centres,' Minister Rajput said. The department is reportedly monitoring operations on an hourly basis to ensure smooth functioning at all centres.
What Happens Next
With procurement set to close on 23 May 2026, the final tally is expected to rise further as centres continue to operate through the weekend. This comes amid broader Centre-level efforts to shore up national food grain stockpiles ahead of the monsoon season. The Madhya Pradesh government's above-MSP bonus signals continued political prioritisation of farmer welfare in a key agricultural state.
