MP govt transfers ₹1,834 crore to 1.25 crore women under Ladli Behna Yojana
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, transferred ₹1,834 crore directly to the bank accounts of approximately 1.25 crore women under the Ladli Behna Yojana, marking the 41st monthly instalment of the state's flagship women's welfare scheme. Each eligible beneficiary receives ₹1,500 per month under the programme.
How the Transfer Was Made
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav initiated the fund transfer during a public programme held at Guruvahi village in Umaria district, coinciding with the occasion of Navratri. In addition to the Ladli Behna payout, Yadav also disbursed ₹115.10 crore in LPG refill subsidies to more than 23 lakh eligible women under a separate state scheme.
Cumulative Spend and Political Claims
Addressing the gathering, Yadav said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government has cumulatively spent more than ₹62,000 crore on women under the Ladli Behna scheme since its launch in June 2023. He also claimed that the state has provided ₹1,600 crore in LPG refill subsidies over three years. Yadav further alleged that previous Congress governments had allocated only ₹350 crore to the Women and Child Development Department, contrasting it with his government's budgetary provision of ₹47,000 crore for women's welfare — a claim that could not be independently verified.
'Our government is fulfilling all its promises to the people with genuine assurances and concrete action,' Yadav said at the event.
Development Works Inaugurated in Umaria
During the programme, Yadav inaugurated 68 development projects worth ₹87 crore and laid foundation stones for another 68 projects valued at ₹57 crore, bringing the total to 136 projects with a combined outlay of ₹144 crore across Umaria district. Specific announcements included the construction of a Sandipani school in Umaria and a new building for the community health centre in Manpur.
Other Welfare Announcements
Yadav referenced additional welfare measures, including free medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh for eligible Ayushman cardholders and an air ambulance service for patients in need. He also announced that families of persons killed in elephant attacks would receive compensation of ₹25 lakh. On the rural economy front, the government said it was promoting dairy farming through subsidies and encouraging tribal families to develop homestays with financial assistance of up to ₹3 lakh. Yadav additionally announced that Amarpur town would be developed as a tehsil, with plans to promote tourism in the district and allot land to social-sector organisations at 25 per cent of its value.
The Ladli Behna Yojana, launched in June 2023, has emerged as one of the BJP's most prominent welfare programmes ahead of state elections, and the scale of monthly disbursements is expected to continue as the government seeks to consolidate its outreach among women voters across Madhya Pradesh.
