MP CM Mohan Yadav to inaugurate 950 MW solar parks in Neemuch, Shajapur
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will inaugurate two large-scale solar parks with a combined installed capacity of 950 MW on Monday, 28 June, marking a landmark moment in the state's clean energy transition. The 500 MW Neemuch Solar Park and the 450 MW Shajapur Solar Park are among the most cost-competitive utility-scale solar projects commissioned in the country to date.
Key Developments at the Inauguration
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi and Madhya Pradesh state Minister for New and Renewable Energy Rakesh Shukla will participate in the event alongside Chief Minister Yadav. The ceremony will also include the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 440 MW Murana Solar Plus Storage Project — described as one of the most competitively priced solar-plus-storage projects in the country and the first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh.
Additionally, the groundbreaking and inauguration of various industrial units and development works worth ₹1,553.98 crore are scheduled to take place at the event.
Record-Low Tariffs Achieved
Additional Chief Secretary for New and Renewable Energy Manu Srivastava highlighted the competitive tariffs secured for these projects. The Neemuch Solar Park units have been contracted at ₹2.14 to ₹2.15 per unit, while the Shajapur Solar Park units are priced between ₹2.33 and ₹2.35 per unit — rates that are reportedly among the lowest in India for utility-scale solar power.
The Murana Solar Plus Storage Project has secured a tariff of ₹2.70 per unit, which officials say is the lowest in India for solar energy bundled with storage — a significant benchmark for the sector nationally.
Agar Solar Park and the Broader Portfolio
Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation, Amit Tomar, noted that the inauguration ceremonies will cover multiple projects aimed at accelerating industrial growth and energy self-reliance across the state. The 550 MW Agar Solar Park, currently under construction, has also achieved competitive tariffs of ₹2.44 to ₹2.45 per unit, further consolidating Madhya Pradesh's solar generation pipeline.
This comes amid a broader national push to scale renewable capacity, with states competing to attract low-cost solar investment as India targets 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
Impact on Employment, Investment and Grid Stability
The twin solar parks and the pioneering storage project are expected to generate substantial employment, attract fresh industrial investment, and contribute meaningfully to Madhya Pradesh's renewable energy targets. Notably, the inclusion of battery storage with the Murana project is designed to enhance grid stability and enable round-the-clock clean power supply — addressing a persistent challenge with intermittent solar generation.
With these additions, Madhya Pradesh is positioning itself as a national leader in solar power generation, and all eyes will be on whether the state can sustain this momentum as it expands its portfolio further.
