Patna, March 5 (NationPress) RJD MLA Mukesh Yadav ignited a discussion in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday by presenting a clear bottle filled with Ganga water to emphasize the alarming pollution levels in the river.

He challenged the Bihar government’s initiatives toward cleaning the Ganga River, claiming that there has been no notable advancement despite years of assurances.

Indirectly critiquing the Modi government at the Centre, he questioned the achievements made over the past decade.

He raised concerns about the pollution levels from Buxar to Bhagalpur.

In response to his allegations, the minister responsible provided a written statement assuring that Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are being established in various cities along the Ganga River.

He mentioned that several STPs have been completed, while others are nearing completion. He defended the delays, stating that such extensive projects require time.

However, MLA Mukesh Yadav expressed dissatisfaction with this explanation, arguing that the cleaning efforts have been ongoing for the last decade without reaching completion.

Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav strongly disapproved of Mukesh Yadav displaying the bottle filled with Ganga water within the Assembly chamber without prior permission.

Mukesh Yadav justified his actions, asserting that he brought it to illustrate the reality of water pollution in the river.

On the fourth day of the Bihar Assembly session, RJD leaders, accompanied by the entire Opposition, conducted a significant protest outside the House, chanting slogans against the ruling NDA government.

They accused the government of failing to enforce the liquor ban law, which has been in effect since 2016.

Addressing issues of crime and lawlessness, RJD leaders criticized the government while also questioning it on the reservation matter.

Mukesh Roshan, the RJD MLA from Mahua Assembly constituency in Vaishali district, brandishing a poster, demanded: “Provide books, not liquor! Provide libraries, not bars!”

He claimed that the illegal liquor trade continues to thrive in the state, despite the ban being implemented nine years ago.

With growing pressure from the Opposition on critical issues, it remains to be seen whether the Bihar government will address these concerns or dismiss them as mere political theatrics in an election year.
