Mumbai, March 16 (NationPress) A security guard in Goregaon, Mumbai, has been apprehended for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl on the terrace of a building, where he lured her under the guise of showing her pigeons, according to police reports on Sunday.
The young girl, who frequently visited the building for private tuition, had formed a friendship with the 51-year-old guard over several weeks before he executed his plan of molestation, police stated.
This unsettling incident occurred on March 7 but came to public attention a week later when the girl unexpectedly refused to return to the building for her tuition session, police mentioned.
Upon questioning by her mother, the girl recounted the entire incident and conveyed her fears of it happening again, police reported.
The mother learned about the events on March 12 and promptly filed a police report, which led to a medical examination of the girl.
The Goregaon police initiated a case against the guard, invoking the molestation and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, resulting in his arrest, according to an official.
His arrest was supported by CCTV footage analysis from the building and an identification parade, ensuring that there was no direct contact between the victim and the accused, said the official.
Statistics reveal that the Mumbai Police record an alarming six cases of child sexual abuse daily involving children aged 4-16. In the first 11 months of 2023, authorities in the country’s financial hub documented 1,005 cases of molestation and abuse under the POCSO Act.
The Goregaon incident has dragged attention back to last year's case in Thane, where a contract employee at a school was charged with sexually assaulting two young girls.
Akshay Shinde, 24, was accused of sexually assaulting the two minors within the school premises in Badlapur. He was detained on August 17, just five days following the alleged abuse.
Shinde met a violent end near the Mumbra bypass in Thane when he reportedly seized a gun from a police officer during transport related to an ongoing investigation tied to a complaint from his former spouse.
