The suspects reportedly stole $10,000 from a delivery executive, while three additional accomplices remain unaccounted for.
This incident has sparked renewed scrutiny regarding the reputation of the Mumbai Police. In the Juhu locality, the two constables, in collaboration with their accomplices, allegedly abducted a delivery executive affiliated with a foreign exchange firm and made off with the valuable currency. The Juhu Police have arrested the two constables, yet three of their accomplices continue to evade capture. The stolen amount has yet to be retrieved.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sandeep Shinde (33) and Gajendra Rajput (40), both stationed at the Bandra-Kurla Complex and Jogeshwari police stations, respectively. They are accused of abusing their authority and uniforms to perpetrate the crime.
As per police reports, the incident transpired on March 25 at approximately 2:00 PM. The victim, a delivery executive working for a forex company based in Bandra, had arrived in Juhu to deliver foreign currency. Near Juhu Circle, the suspects forcibly abducted him and hurled him into an Ertiga vehicle.
Inside the car, the victim was allegedly assaulted and threatened with false criminal charges. The suspects then drove him to Dahisar, where they forcefully took a bag containing $10,000 and continued to beat him. However, displaying remarkable bravery, the victim called for help, which drew the attention of passersby who notified a police patrol that arrived promptly.
Realizing they were trapped, the suspects attempted to flee. Sandeep Shinde was taken into custody on the spot, while the others escaped. Gajendra Rajput was later arrested at his home in Thane. Charges have been filed against both for kidnapping, extortion, robbery, and impersonation of public servants.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage, with multiple teams assigned to locate the remaining suspects. This incident raises serious questions about how the safety of ordinary citizens can be maintained when law enforcement officials are involved in criminal activities.
