Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 7 (NationPress) — In a significant achievement in its ongoing anti-drug initiative, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Police has successfully confiscated narcotics valued at Rs 7.69 crore from the Vile Parle region and apprehended an alleged drug trafficker, as reported by officials on Tuesday.
The operation was executed by the Worli Unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, which recovered 7.6 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis hidden within a trolley bag. This seized substance is projected to hold a substantial value in the international market.
This action is part of a city-wide initiative aimed at dismantling drug networks operating in Mumbai. During a routine patrol on Ferozshah Mehta Road in Vile Parle East, police officers spotted a young man standing with a trolley bag.
Upon noticing the police vehicle, he exhibited signs of nervousness and attempted to escape, which raised suspicions.
Reacting quickly, the police intercepted him and conducted initial questioning. He identified himself as Adnan Nasir Khan (24), a resident of Mira Road, originally hailing from Nashik, according to officials.
During further interrogation, the suspect confessed that the trolley bag contained hydroponic cannabis and that he intended to sell the drugs at that location. A subsequent search of the bag revealed cannabis stored in white plastic packets.
Officials confirmed through forensic analysis that the substance was indeed hydroponic cannabis, a premium variant cultivated through advanced methods, known for its potency and high cost compared to conventional cannabis. The seized items were secured and retained as evidence.
The police also confiscated a mobile phone and a passport from the suspect, both of which will be examined further during the investigation.
A case has been filed at the Vile Parle Police Station under Section 20(b) of the NDPS Act along with other relevant statutes.
Investigators are currently exploring the source from which the suspect acquired the drugs and identifying the intended buyers, with officials suspecting the existence of a larger drug syndicate facilitating the supply chain.
Officials noted that in the past two months, the Mumbai Police have seized drugs worth approximately Rs 38 crore as part of their intensified efforts to combat narcotics trafficking across the city.
