Mysuru/Mumbai, March 31 (NationPress) The Crime Branch of Mumbai has begun preparations to obtain custody of Srinivas Lewis, a 47-year-old individual accused of dispatching over 1,100 threatening emails across the nation, with several targeting the city of Mumbai.

In a significant development, the Delhi Police arrested Srivas Lewis on Monday, identifying him as the alleged mastermind behind a series of fabricated bomb threats that have incited fear nationwide. He was apprehended in Mysuru, Karnataka.

Officials confirmed that the Mumbai Police are poised to take custody of the suspect for further questioning.

Authorities suspect that Lewis may also be linked to more than 100 threatening emails reported in Mumbai and the surrounding regions over the past three years.

According to officials, Lewis was detained through a collaborative effort by the Delhi Police in Mysuru.

Initial investigations suggest that he repeatedly issued hoax bomb threats to sensitive sites including schools, High Courts, Legislative Assemblies, and various government offices, resulting in security alerts and widespread panic.

Mumbai Police representatives have stated they are coordinating with their Delhi counterparts, analyzing the suspect's past email activities, including patterns, linguistic style, and digital traces.

A senior officer noted that if a solid connection is established, Lewis will be transported to Mumbai for comprehensive interrogation.

Investigators have highlighted that since 2023, a serial email threat sender has been operating in Mumbai, frequently claiming that RDX-based improvised explosive devices were planted.

These threats led to numerous evacuations of government facilities and financial institutions, although all alerts were ultimately proven to be false.

On March 18, an alarming email was directed to the Regional Passport Office at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, warning of 19 cyanide gas bombs set to detonate at 1:30 PM.

In another case from May 2025, the Palghar Collector's office received a threat regarding an RDX attack.

Officials reported that these emails often contained conspiracy theories and attempted to mislead investigators by referencing names of South Indian politicians, actors, and YouTubers.

The investigation has also uncovered that the suspect allegedly utilized multiple digital identities and spoofed email addresses to mask his identity.

Cyber teams are actively scrutinizing email headers, IP logs, and routing data to determine if there is a direct correlation between the Mumbai threats and the detained individual.

Authorities believe that the accused intentionally targeted prominent institutions to maximize fear and chaos.

Preliminary evaluations have also suggested that he might be experiencing mental distress, although officials stress that the investigation is ongoing, and all avenues are being explored.
