Mumbai, March 24 (NationPress) BJP legislator Sudhir Mungantiwar, who was not included in Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ cabinet, on Monday criticized the presiding officer of the state Assembly. He asserted that members are not merely present to receive the daily allowance of Rs 2,000, but to address a range of issues for discussion and resolution.

He expressed significant concern regarding the way the day’s agenda is handled after the presiding officer announced that the motions for a half-hour discussion were postponed.

Mungantiwar adopted a confrontational stance, stating that if the chair does not prioritize his motion for half an hour of discussion, it should be addressed in the Assembly Speaker’s chamber.

"Are we here just to collect Rs 2,000? We are not attending these sessions because we lack food at home," remarked Mungantiwar. The treasury bench members were taken aback, while opposition members supported him, affirming his point about the insufficient time allotted for discussions on various motions.

"If you do not intend to facilitate the half-hour discussion, just be transparent about it. Don’t keep me waiting in the house for three hours only to announce that there will be no half-hour discussion on the motion. Will there be a half-hour discussion or not? There should not be any misleading information coming from that chair again," Mungantiwar added.

"The Speaker should convene a meeting in his chamber after the budget session concludes on March 26. Ultimately, we will present our motions and engage in discussion there,” he stated.

He has been frequently in the spotlight for his continued interventions aimed at the state government and the Assembly chair.

Last week, he remarked that Vidhan Bhavan has transformed into Lakshavedhi Bhavan following the Speaker’s decision to address over 30 calling attention motions for discussion daily.

Mungantiwar indicated that this approach has deprived members of adequate time to deliberate on bills and other legislative matters.

Following Mungantiwar’s criticism, the presiding officer guaranteed that a meeting would be arranged in the Speaker’s chamber.

In the meantime, Shiv Sena legislator Sunil Prabhu also voiced strong criticism regarding the passage of bills without allowing sufficient time for opposition discussions.
