Nagpur, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was suspended for ten minutes on Tuesday when BJP members accused IAS officer Tukaram Munde and demanded immediate intervention, sparking intense exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches.
BJP member Krishna Khopade brought the matter to light, claiming that in 2020, Munde authorized cheques totaling Rs 20 crore without proper approval. “Two individuals connected to Munde threatened me, cautioning me against speaking out or facing serious repercussions. I have lodged a police report at the Sitabardi police station and informed both the police commissioner and the offices of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Speaker Rahul Narwekar,” Khopade stated.
Khopade further asserted that Munde had undergone 24 transfers in just 20 years of service and called for a comprehensive investigation into his behavior.
Another BJP member, Pravin Datke, echoed Khopade’s claims, mentioning that Munde had revoked a female employee’s leave shortly after she gave birth. “Numerous decisions made by him were overturned by the Urban Development Department. A thorough investigation must be conducted,” he asserted.
In response to these allegations, Minister Girish Mahajan informed the assembly that the relevant legislators had already briefed Chief Minister Fadnavis. “The Chief Minister treats this matter with utmost seriousness, and suitable actions will ensue,” he remarked.
However, the Treasury benches continued their protests, resulting in Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode adjourning the session for ten minutes. Upon resuming, Khopade and Datke reiterated their call for swift action.
Congress Leader Vijay Wadettiwar pointed out that Munde had faced multiple investigations in the past without any findings of guilt. “Despite undergoing 24 transfers, none of the inquiries have found him at fault. The National Commission for Women also did not identify any misconduct. In fact, the women who raised complaints against him were penalized,” Wadettiwar stated.
He urged the government to refrain from acting under duress. “If accusations stem from personal vendettas, action should not be taken. No officer should face punishment simply because someone is displeased with them,” he added.
Chief Minister Fadnavis assured that the government would scrutinize all details. “Threatening an MLA is unacceptable. A thorough investigation will be conducted, and the assembly will be updated on the findings,” he affirmed.
