Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) The Vanrai Police have apprehended two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a homeless scrap collector, following a financial dispute regarding the proceeds from scrap sales. One of the suspects hails from Haryana. Both individuals were presented before a judicial authority, which ordered their detention for four days in police custody.
According to law enforcement sources, authorities were alerted to an unidentified man found unconscious near Hanuman Tekri in Goregaon. The victim was swiftly transported to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East for medical attention. Unfortunately, upon evaluation, medical professionals pronounced him dead.
Initially, the Vanrai Police classified the incident under the Accidental Death Report (ADR). However, during the initial investigation, significant head injuries on the victim raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding his demise. As the deceased lacked identification, it took time to ascertain his identity.
To uncover the victim's identity, police established two investigative teams and disseminated photographs of the deceased among scrap collectors in the Goregaon-Dahisar region. Reports indicate that the images were shown to approximately 50 to 70 scrap collectors in the vicinity. Eventually, some identified the deceased as Azhar, known for collecting scrap in tandem with two associates, Suresh alias “Kaliya” and Salim alias “Nepali”.
Investigators found that both Suresh and Salim had been unaccounted for since the incident, intensifying the suspicion against them.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination confirmed that Azhar’s death resulted from injuries sustained during an assault. In light of this finding, police initiated a murder investigation against unidentified individuals and commenced a search effort.
Throughout the investigation, police tracked down and detained Suresh alias “Kaliya” in Haryana. During questioning, he purportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he and his associate Salim alias “Nepali” fatally assaulted Azhar following a quarrel over the distribution of scrap sale proceeds.
According to police, the accused repeatedly struck Azhar on the head with a stone during their altercation, which ultimately led to his death. Following Suresh's confession, the second suspect, Salim alias “Nepali,” was arrested in the Pathanwadi area of Malad.
