Srinagar, Sep 24 (NationPress) Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) Ganderbal district revealed on Wednesday that a young man believed to have drowned in a canal was, in fact, murdered by his associates.
SSP Ganderbal, Muhammad Khalil Poswal, informed the media that the victim, a 22-year-old named Ajaz Ahmed Rather, son of Ghulam Muhammad Rather from Sultan Colony Kangan, was strangled before his remains were disposed of in the canal.
This information surfaced shortly after his body was retrieved from the canal.
The SSP stated that Ajaz Ahmed frequently played cricket with two individuals, identified as Niyazul Haq and Moieen, but tensions and hostility developed over time.
“The two suspects purchased a wire, which was clearly recorded on CCTV, and utilized it to strangle Ajaz Ahmed.
“Following the murder, they discarded his body into the canal. The wire employed in this crime has also been seized, with strangulation marks evident on the victim's neck, confirming that this was not an accident, but a premeditated act of murder.
“We will employ scientific and forensic techniques to bolster the case, and we are optimistic about achieving a conviction against the perpetrators,” the SSP stated.
The body was recovered after a 12-hour search by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police teams.
Residents of Kangan and nearby areas are taken aback by the revelations from the authorities. The SSP remarked that this case should serve as a crucial reminder.
“It is tragic that young individuals have resorted to such extreme actions. We urge parents and the community to monitor their children's behavior and provide proper guidance.
“A formal murder case has been registered, and both suspects are in custody. Investigators are currently reconstructing the sequence of events leading to the crime. Justice will be served,” assured the SSP.
Last month, a teenage girl was arrested for allegedly murdering her younger sister in the same district.
