Amaravati, March 5 (NationPress) Andhra Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has declared his brother K. Naga Babu as the candidate for the Jana Sena party in the upcoming Legislative Council elections.

Pawan Kalyan, who leads the Jana Sena, has confirmed Naga Babu’s candidacy, who serves as the party's General Secretary.

Naga Babu, the elder sibling of Pawan Kalyan and the younger brother of megastar Chiranjeevi, is also a noted actor and film producer. He played a significant role in campaigning for the party during last year’s elections.

As Naga Babu is not currently a member of the Legislature, his potential election as an MLC could facilitate his entry into the state Cabinet, as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has already indicated he would be appointed as a minister.

The elections for five MLC seats from the MLAs’ quota in Andhra Pradesh are set for March 10.

The Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance is well-positioned to dominate the polls. The TDP, along with its partners, the Jana Sena and the BJP, holds a combined total of 164 seats in the 175-member Assembly.

The TDP has 135 members, while the Jana Sena and BJP have 21 and 8 seats, respectively. There is speculation that TDP may allocate two MLC seats to Jana Sena and one to the BJP.

While announcing two candidates for the Rajya Sabha by-elections and reserving the third seat for the BJP, Naidu, also the TDP President, has decided to include Jana Sena in the state Cabinet.

Reports suggest that the TDP offered a Rajya Sabha seat to the Jana Sena, but Naga Babu expressed a preference for a ministerial role. After leaving the Rajya Sabha seat for the BJP, Naidu opted to bring Naga Babu into the Cabinet.

Naga Babu, also known as Nagendra Babu, will become the fourth minister from the Jana Sena.

Currently, Pawan Kalyan, Nadendla Manohar, and Kandula Durgesh serve as ministers from Jana Sena in the Naidu Cabinet.

The state Cabinet can accommodate a maximum of 25 members. Chandrababu Naidu and 23 ministers took their oaths on June 12. The TDP has three ministers from the Jana Sena and one from the BJP, with one vacancy designated for the Jana Sena.

Naga Babu has been a collaborator with Pawan Kalyan since the inception of the Jana Sena in 2014.

Previously, both were actively engaged with the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) founded by their eldest brother Chiranjeevi in 2008. However, the PRP failed to perform well in the 2009 elections, leading to its merger with the Congress two years later.
