Amaravati, March 9 (NationPress) The Telugu Desam Party revealed three candidates on Sunday, designating a seat each for its allies, the Jana Sena and the BJP, in preparation for the upcoming biennial elections to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

The TDP has nominated the young leader and Chairperson of the State Women Cooperative Finance Corporation, Kavali Grishma, as one of the candidates. She is the daughter of esteemed TDP figure and former Speaker Pratibha Bharati.

Additionally, TDP national Secretary Beeda Ravichandra Yadav and B.T. Naidu, both prominent BC leaders, have been selected as candidates by TDP national President and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP has put forward BT Naidu for a second consecutive term. He is among the five MLCs who will be retiring on March 29.

Voting for five MLC positions from the MLAs’ quota is scheduled for March 20.

The vacancies were created by the retirement of four TDP MLCs and the disqualification of Janga Krishna Murthy by the Council Chairman last year, following his dissent against the YSR Congress Party.

Under pressure from BJP leaders, Chandrababu Naidu consented to allocate one seat for the party. He had previously set aside a seat for his other alliance partner, Jana Sena.

Naga Babu, brother of Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena President Pawan Kalyan, has already submitted his nomination for the MLC elections. Chandrababu Naidu has announced that Naga Babu will be inducted into the Cabinet.

The TDP-led NDA, holding 164 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly, is expected to dominate the elections. The TDP has 135 MLAs, Jana Sena has 21, and the BJP has eight.

The YSR Congress Party controls only 11 seats in the Assembly.

Due to multiple candidates vying for MLC positions within the TDP, Chandrababu Naidu had to persuade them to wait until 2027 when seven more seats will become available.

The notification for the MLC elections was issued on March 3. The final date for submitting nominations is March 10. The examination of nominations will occur on March 11, with the deadline for withdrawal set for March 13.
