Kohima, April 26 (NationPress) The Nagaland Police issued an advisory on Saturday, stating that credible sources indicate that following the Pahalgam terror incident, hostile and anti-national entities will resort to various tactics to foster and disseminate misinformation and false propaganda aimed at undermining peace and law and order within the nation and particularly in the northeastern state.

The advisory elaborated that in light of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the ensuing developments, it has been confirmed that antagonistic and anti-national forces will employ all means to promote and circulate misinformation and false narratives, intending to disrupt the peace and order in both the country and Nagaland.

It emphasized that one of the simplest methods for achieving this is through social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X, utilizing available tools, including artificial intelligence, to fabricate false narratives.

The advisory pointed out that many posts circulating on these social media platforms originate from accounts managed from Pakistan or their agents, and regrettably, these posts are often downloaded and shared by unsuspecting members of the public.

The Nagaland Police expressed concern that in the near future, numerous newly established accounts will emerge on social media to disseminate and promote emotional and anti-national sentiments among the populace, potentially inciting discord among communities.

The police urged all citizens to refrain from believing any information encountered on social media without proper verification and due diligence.

“We kindly request that you do not circulate or share any content that could potentially disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the state,” the advisory cautioned.

The police highlighted that such actions not only harm society but are also criminal offenses punishable under the law.

In a related note, the Tripura police reported on Friday via a post on their X account that they had observed individuals disseminating provocative and misleading messages on social media.

“Please be aware that forwarding, sharing, or creating such content constitutes an offense under the law. Stringent legal action will be pursued against those engaged in such activities,” the police stated.

The police also urged everyone not to engage with or propagate any provocative or misleading messages.

“We encourage all citizens to remain vigilant and report any unlawful activities to the police without delay,” the appeal concluded.
