Srinagar, May 11 (NationPress) In light of escalating tensions along the Pakistan border, the Jammu and Kashmir government is calling on its citizens to remain calm and steer clear of unverified information spreading on social media platforms.
In a statement shared via the official account of the Jammu and Kashmir Information and Public Relations Department on X, it was expressed, "The Jammu & Kashmir government acknowledges the resilience and trust displayed by its citizens amid recent events. All essential measures are being implemented, ensuring that the government is fully equipped to manage any situation, eliminating any reasons for concern."
Additionally, the Ministry of Defence has highlighted the importance of remaining vigilant against fake news on WhatsApp, advising the public to depend on reliable sources for updates.
The Ministry encouraged community members to subscribe to its official WhatsApp channel for verified information regarding defence issues.
In a message on X, the Ministry of Defence stated, "During these sensitive times, misinformation and false news are rampant on WhatsApp. Exercise caution and subscribe to our WhatsApp Channel for all verified information linked to the Ministry of Defence."
The Jammu and Kashmir government reiterated that the public should adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) laid down by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other relevant agencies.
"Misinformation and unverified claims circulating on social media can lead to unnecessary panic. Residents should refrain from engaging with or disseminating rumors. Trust only reputable news outlets and official government communications for accurate information," it further stipulated.
The government also highlighted that the Health Department has "fully activated its emergency protocols and is adequately prepared to address any medical emergencies."
The advisory also implores media personnel to be "responsible" when disseminating news.
"The cooperation of the public in maintaining peace and order during these times is vital. The general public, and media personnel in particular, are requested to act responsibly in sharing information and adhere to the guidelines issued by the government on this matter," the statement concluded.
