Mumbai, March 18 (NationPress) Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the Maharashtra BJP chief and revenue minister, urged the citizens of Nagpur to work alongside the administration to preserve peace and social harmony.

“A troubling situation has emerged in the Mahal area of Nagpur due to an unfortunate incident of stone pelting. The police are taking every precaution to prevent any further incidents. I humbly request that the residents of Nagpur cooperate with the authorities. As responsible citizens, it's our duty to ensure that no further disturbances occur in our city. Nagpur has always been a symbol of social harmony. We must uphold this tradition. I also ask you to contribute to maintaining peace in Nagpur, avoiding any rumours, and placing your full trust in the administration,” he stated.

Bawankule continued, emphasizing that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already called upon the citizens of Nagpur to support the police in restoring peace.

“The police are managing the situation after the stone pelting incident in Mahal. Chief Minister Fadnavis has urged citizens to cooperate completely with the authorities during this time. We are in constant communication with the police, and it is essential for citizens to assist them. Nagpur is a peaceful city, where residents share each other's joys and sorrows. This has been a longstanding tradition here. Therefore, I urge everyone not to believe in any rumours and to cooperate fully with the administration,” Bawankule reiterated.

State Home Minister Yogesh Kadam also appealed to the people of Nagpur to avoid falling prey to misunderstandings or false information.

“The administration is effectively managing the situation, and our focus remains unwavering. We are in regular contact with the police, and I encourage citizens to lend their support. Social harmony is a strength of Maharashtra; do not believe in any false news at this time and fully assist the administration,” he urged. He also advised against taking the law into one’s own hands, urging everyone to be vigilant to prevent any inappropriate incidents.

Harshwardhan Patil, president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, expressed that the stone-pelting and arson incident in Nagpur was unnecessary and deeply regrettable. He called on the citizens of Nagpur to maintain peace and to disregard rumours.

“People of all faiths coexist in Nagpur with great dignity and happiness. Nagpur is the home of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The Home Department has failed to keep the peace in the city, resulting in stone pelting and arson, as well as a lack of foresight from the police. Recently, state cabinet ministers have been making provocative statements that appear to be intentionally sowing division. This has evidently succeeded in Nagpur. The state is facing many critical issues: inflation, unemployment, unfulfilled promises of agricultural loan waivers, and a significant number of farmer suicides. These provocative statements from the ruling party are merely a distraction from these pressing concerns,” he alleged.

“Nagpur is a city that values social harmony. While riots occur in other parts of the nation, Nagpur has maintained its peace. During Ram Navami, Hindus and Muslims share the celebration together. More Hindus than Muslims visit Tajuddin Baba's dargah for blessings. I urge everyone to recognize the political agenda aimed at inciting unrest in Nagpur and to uphold peace,” he concluded.

In another development, BJP minister for ports and fisheries, Nitesh Rane, sparked controversy by comparing the grave of Aurangzeb to a toilet. “That grave is not even worth keeping here, and declaring it a toilet wouldn't be a mistake. The actions against our Chhatrapati Shivaji and Sambhaji are not deserving of remembrance in our state, and this is the position our Chief Minister has taken. This dishonor will not remain for long. You’ll get the breaking news soon,” he remarked.
