Nagpur, March 24 (NationPress) On Monday, the Municipal Corporation of Nagpur executed a demolition operation at the residence of Fahim Khan, who is suspected to be the mastermind behind the violence that transpired on March 17. This unrest was triggered by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)'s demand for the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
A team from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation arrived with bulldozers to demolish an unauthorized structure at Khan's residence. Officials mentioned that Khan had been previously served a notice for numerous violations, including lacking a valid building plan approval. His inaction led to this demolition.
Khan, who heads the Minority Democratic Party (MDP), has been charged with sedition alongside five other individuals. He was apprehended and placed in judicial custody until March 21.
The Nagpur Police have also initiated investigations into over 300 social media accounts related to the riots, with 140 identified as containing inappropriate posts and videos. The process of filing cases against these accounts is currently in progress.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police stated that the objectionable content was disseminated from an account outside Nagpur. "Support for the riots was expressed through various posts. This account is under investigation, and we are also looking into its possible foreign connections. Additionally, the social media account of the main accused, Fahim Khan, has been scrutinized, revealing objectionable content, leading the cyber department to register a case in this regard," he elaborated.
So far, four FIRs have been lodged concerning the Nagpur riots, outlining over 50 allegations. Authorities have indicated that additional FIRs will be filed as the investigation develops.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also oversees the Home Ministry, has taken a strong position regarding the situation. He declared that the costs incurred from the property damage during the riots would be recouped from the offenders. Should they neglect to compensate, their properties will be seized and auctioned to cover the expenses.
"My government will ensure that those responsible for attacking the police are identified and dealt with decisively," Fadnavis emphasized, reaffirming the administration's dedication to maintaining law and order.
