Amaravati, April 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the green light on the Tirupati-Katpadi railway line doubling project.

Through a post on X, Naidu acknowledged the Prime Minister, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and the Union Cabinet on behalf of the citizens of Andhra Pradesh for the approval of Rs 1,332 crore allocated for this project.

Naidu, whose party, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is a vital partner in the Narendra Modi-led administration, remarked that this groundbreaking project will link significant religious sites such as Sri Tirupati Balaji Temple, Sri Kalahasti Shiva Temple, and Chandragiri Fort, while also improving accessibility to educational and medical centers in Vellore and Tirupati.

He stated, "This initiative will enhance the agricultural economy and stimulate the expansion of industries like electronics, cement, and steel in Andhra Pradesh. For the districts of Chittoor and Tirupati, this line signifies a new phase of connectivity and development," as per Naidu's statement.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by the Prime Minister, has sanctioned the doubling of the Tirupati – Pakala – Katpadi single railway line section (104 km) traversing Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

According to the South Central Railway, the increased line capacity will bolster mobility, delivering improved efficiency and reliability for Indian Railways. The multi-tracking initiative will facilitate operations and alleviate congestion, offering the necessary infrastructural advancements on one of the busiest railway segments in the country.

This project, spanning three districts across two states, namely Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, will expand the existing Indian Railways network by approximately 113 km. In addition to providing access to the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, the section will also connect other notable sites such as Sri Kalahasti Shiva Temple, Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple, and Chandragiri Fort, drawing pilgrims and tourists from all over the nation.

The multi-tracking project is set to improve connectivity to around 400 villages and benefit a population of approximately 14 lakh. This vital route serves as a crucial channel for transporting goods including coal, agricultural products, cement, and various minerals. The capacity enhancement efforts will lead to an additional freight volume of about 4 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum).
