Launched on August 2 by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, this comprehensive health screening program aims to deliver specialized medical care to residents through a network of camps established across Tamil Nadu.
On the inaugural day alone, 1,256 camps were set up, providing a variety of diagnostic services to the public at no cost. Chennai recorded the highest number of beneficiaries with 2,935 individuals utilizing services under the scheme, followed by 2,013 in Villupuram, 1,385 in Coimbatore, and 1,360 in Tiruvannamalai.
The total number of beneficiaries across districts now stands at 4,44,018, showcasing the significant response to the initiative in its early stages.
This scheme, part of the Dravidian model of inclusive governance, is aimed at early detection of health issues to ensure timely interventions, especially for underprivileged and rural communities.
In a related development, Chief Minister Stalin is set to inaugurate a modern 400-bed District Headquarters Hospital at Tambaram on August 9. Constructed at a cost of Rs 110 crore, the hospital is situated within the Tambaram Sanatorium complex and aims to enhance healthcare access for residents in and around southern Chennai.
The new hospital features a state-of-the-art emergency department, surgical center, blood bank, dialysis unit, maternity block, and an isolation ward built at a cost of Rs 21 crore.
Moreover, a dedicated dental and diagnostic laboratory wing has been launched for Rs 7 crore to address specialized medical needs. This facility is anticipated to significantly alleviate the patient load on tertiary hospitals in the city while providing quality healthcare services at the district level.
The dual emphasis on both preventive and curative health infrastructure underscores the state government's commitment to enhancing public health outcomes through systematic planning, investment, and outreach.
