New Delhi, July 1 (NationPress) Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has found himself at the center of a political uproar after his social media post endorsing Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh incited strong backlash from leaders of the BJP, especially Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam.
Kadam labeled Shah's comments as “anti-Hindu” and “highly insensitive,” demanding a public apology, claiming that Shah had offended the sentiments of millions of Hindus nationwide.
In a post that became widely circulated, Shah expressed his support for Diljit amidst a political stir concerning the release of his latest film, 'Sardaar Ji 3', criticizing what he referred to as the “dirty tricks department of the Jumla Party.”
The actor took to his Facebook account, articulating his support for Diljit Dosanjh, emphasizing that the star was not accountable for the inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film.
“He was not the one responsible for the film's casting; that was the director's decision. However, no one knows who he is while Diljit enjoys worldwide recognition, and he accepted the role because his mind is untainted,” the acclaimed actor remarked.
Shah defended Diljit’s international acclaim and denounced attempts to tarnish his image. He also showed solidarity with the people of Pakistan, vowing to continue his friendships there, concluding his post with a pointed remark: “My response to those who suggest ‘Go to Pakistan’ is — ‘Go to Kailasa’.”
In a sharp reaction, BJP leader Ram Kadam addressed the media in Mumbai, questioning Shah's reasoning behind the comparison.
“Who prompted you to go to Pakistan? Kailasa is our holy land, it is Shiv Bhoomi, a representation of Sanatan culture. Why is Naseeruddin Shah drawing parallels with Pakistan?”
Kadam further criticized Shah, stating, “Has he forgotten the Pahalgam attack? Is he not aware that Pakistan is India's sworn adversary? Does his admiration for Pakistan surpass his love for India? Has he ever voiced his support for those who lost their families in terrorist attacks?”
Labeling Shah’s statement as deeply offensive, Kadam asserted, “Naseeruddin Shah has disrespected our courageous soldiers, insulted millions of Hindus, and the sanctity of Kailasa. This is merely a publicity stunt to maintain relevance. He must humbly apologize.”
Kadam also cautioned Diljit Dosanjh to steer clear of individuals who oppose “Maa Bharti”.
The controversy is poised to intensify as political and cultural divides widen ahead of the forthcoming BMC elections in Maharashtra.
