Nation Honors Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Visionary Behind India's Economic Transformation

New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) The nation gathered to pay a heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was laid to rest at Delhi's Nigam Bodh Ghat with full State honors on Saturday. Known affectionately as the 'Architect of India's economic reforms', Dr. Singh's passing marked a significant moment in Indian history.
As the procession moved, emotional chants of “Manmohan Singh Ji Amar Rahe” and “Jab Tak Suraj Chand Rahega, Manmohan Singh Ka Naam Rahega” echoed through the air, as the late leader's mortal remains were transported from the Congress headquarters to the cremation site in a flower-laden Army vehicle.
Among the attendees was Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, who accompanied Dr. Singh's family, showcasing his deep respect for the late leader.
High-profile dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as Union Ministers such as Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, gathered at Nigam Bodh Ghat to pay their final respects to the economic visionary.
International guests, including Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful, were also present to honor the late leader.
The former Prime Minister was accorded a final salute by the armed forces, accompanied by the traditional 21-gun salute in his memory.
General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, alongside the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, gathered to pay tribute to the leader who steered India through periods of significant change.
Earlier in the day, officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force transported Dr. Singh's remains to the Congress headquarters, where family and senior party leaders convened for a solemn homage.
In a poignant display, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge draped the Congress flag over Dr. Singh's body, marking a moment of deep respect.
His wife, Gursharan Kaur, led the family in paying their respects, joined by notable Congress figures such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, D.K. Shivakumar, Ashok Gehlot, K.C. Venugopal, Siddaramaiah, S Sukhu, and Revanth Reddy.
As the funeral procession made its way through the streets, a large crowd of Congress leaders, supporters, and workers chanted “Manmohan Singh Amar Rahe” in tribute to the visionary leader.
Dr. Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, served as India's 14th Prime Minister.
Regarded as the 'Architect of India’s economic reforms', he led the country as head of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014.
His legacy as a globally respected economist and statesman leaves an indelible mark on India's economic and political landscape.
