New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) The National Commission for Women (NCW) has formally requested a report within three days from the chief of Maharashtra Police regarding a media report that claims the abduction, repeated rape, and forced abortion of a 15-year-old girl in Thane, who was coerced into prostitution.
Reacting to this alarming situation, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has directed the Director General of Police to guarantee a prompt and impartial investigation into this distressing case.
Rahatkar emphasized the necessity for the arrest of the primary accused and mandated strict enforcement of the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), and any other applicable regulations.
“It is crucial to provide support and rehabilitation to the victim. A comprehensive action-taken report is to be submitted to NCW within three days,” stated the NCW chairperson in a social media update.
In another case, following an acid attack on a woman in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Rahatkar has demanded a report from the UP Police within three days.
She condemned this brutal act, noting on social media, “The psychological and physical impact of such attacks is deep and enduring.”
In her communication to the UP Director General of Police, she called for a swift and fair investigation, along with the immediate apprehension of the perpetrator under the relevant laws.
“A detailed action-taken report is to be submitted to NCW within three days,” she reiterated.
Previously, the NCW had raised questions regarding the Bihar government’s handling of the death of a 10-year-old Dalit rape victim at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Taking suo motu cognisance of the tragic incident in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where the young victim was left waiting in an ambulance for over four hours without medical care, the NCW Chairperson condemned the blatant negligence and systemic flaws.
She instructed the Chief Secretary and state police chief to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the case, focusing on the roles of hospital authorities and police in this tragic event.
“Immediate action must be taken against individuals found guilty of negligence. A detailed action-taken report must be submitted to the Commission within three days,” she emphasized on Monday.
