New Delhi, May 1 (NationPress) In celebration of Labour Day, Chairman Keshav Chandra of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) formally inaugurated a revamped departmental canteen at its headquarters, Palika Kendra.
Chandra emphasized that this canteen will operate as a plastic-free environment, prohibiting the use of any single-use plastic.
The NDMC Departmental Canteen is a collaborative effort with IRCTC, where all food offerings will be supplied by IRCTC while the NDMC provides the space for the canteen.
Describing it as a pivotal move towards enhancing employee welfare, Chandra noted that the canteen will offer affordable and convenient meals, snacks, and other food items for staff. Spanning roughly 1200 sq. feet, it can accommodate 50 seated and 10 standing individuals.
Located at the entrance of Palika Kendra at Gate No. 1, the canteen's kitchen is outfitted with state-of-the-art appliances, according to an official.
The canteen's menu features favorites from both North and South India, providing breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages.
Operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, including Saturdays, it aims to create a pleasant dining experience for both staff and visitors of the Palika Kendra building.
Food will be served in steel utensils, with periodic quality and quantity checks to ensure the standards of the canteen's offerings, stated the official.
A Mother Dairy outlet is currently located in a corner of the canteen, offering ice cream and other dairy products for employees and visitors.
The inauguration was attended by Tariq Thomas, Secretary, along with other senior NDMC officials and IRCTC executives, including M. Dinkar, DGM, Anand Kumar Jha, AGM, and Jai Singh, Catering Supervisor.
This new canteen is expected to significantly enhance the wellbeing of employees by providing nutritious meals, snacks, and refreshments, especially for those working extended hours or with limited lunch breaks.
