The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) successfully conducted the NEET-PG 2026 entrance examination on Sunday, 30 August, with 2,65,980 candidates appearing across 1,111 centres in 339 cities, covering all 36 states and Union Territories. The large-scale test was completed in a largely smooth and secure manner, officials said.

Scale of the Examination

The exam was originally scheduled for 2.73 lakh candidates, making the 2,65,980 who appeared a strong turnout. The nationwide rollout spanned every corner of the country, with centres set up across cities in all states and UTs. NBEMS described the conduct as reflecting “extensive coordination among examination authorities, medical institutions, faculty, security agencies, technology teams and other stakeholders involved in the nationwide exercise.”

Technical Disruption in Jaipur

The examination was not without a hiccup. A power supply failure at centres in Jaipur disrupted the test for 2,445 candidates, preventing them from completing the examination. NBEMS expressed regret over the inconvenience and confirmed that a re-examination for the affected candidates will be held in Jaipur on 5 September, in the second half of the day. Venue details and related instructions will be communicated to affected students shortly, the board said.

Security and Monitoring Measures

To ensure integrity, NBEMS deployed a multi-layered surveillance framework. A total of 2,527 faculty members were appointed as Independent Appraisers, while more than 700 senior faculty members — including Deans, Directors, Medical Superintendents, and senior professors — served as Flying Squad members across centres. Sixteen NBEMS Regional Command Centres were operational nationwide, and all examination venues were placed under live CCTV surveillance monitored continuously from the NBEMS Command Centre at its headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi. A dedicated team of 190 personnel from NBEMS and TCS handled real-time surveillance and monitoring.

With the main examination now concluded, the focus shifts to the 5 September re-exam in Jaipur and the subsequent result declaration process. The smooth conduct of NEET-PG 2026 — coming after years of controversy and court scrutiny over medical entrance examinations in India — will be closely watched as a benchmark for future high-stakes tests.
