NEET UG 2026 re-exam: NTA credits 'Team Bharat' as 20 lakh sit test
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The National Testing Agency (NTA) on 21 June 2026 credited a sweeping national effort — involving ministries, state governments, security forces, and banking partners — for the successful conduct of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination, with more than 20 lakh candidates appearing across 5,440 centres in India and 14 centres abroad. The agency shared a detailed account on X, calling the exercise a 'Team Bharat' undertaking completed in a record 37 days.
Scale of the Operation
The examination was conducted in 13 languages, making it one of the most linguistically inclusive editions of the test. Around 7 lakh officials — including police personnel, observers, and examination staff — were mobilised across the country to ensure smooth conduct. NTA noted that the entire exercise, from planning to execution, was wrapped up in 37 days, a timeline it described as a record for an examination of this scale.
Arrangements for Vulnerable Candidates
NTA highlighted special provisions made for more than 10,000 Persons with Disabilities and approximately 81 candidates with serious medical conditions. Accommodations were extended to students recovering from road accidents and those undergoing chemotherapy, ensuring that years of preparation were not rendered futile by circumstances beyond their control. The agency framed this as a core commitment of the exercise.
Security and Monitoring Measures
The examination deployed a multi-layered security framework, including Aadhaar-based biometric and face authentication, CCTV surveillance, signal jammers, and two-layer frisking with support from State Police forces. Command and control centres for CCTV monitoring were established at the national, state, and district levels, reflecting the security-first approach adopted after past controversies surrounding the examination.
Institutional Support
According to NTA, the examination drew backing from multiple arms of the government, including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of External Affairs, NIC, MeitY, the Department of Posts, the Indian Air Force, and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Banking partners — State Bank of India (SBI), Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), and UCO Bank — also contributed to the logistics. Several state governments arranged drinking water, shaded waiting areas, food, ambulances, medical facilities, and, in some cases, free transportation for candidates.
NTA's Message to the Nation
In its post, NTA wrote: 'This was not the National Testing Agency acting alone. It was Team Bharat — a chain of people across the country who showed up so that, for each candidate, the only thing that mattered that morning was the paper in front of them.' The post closed with the message: 'Team NTA. Team Bharat. One exam, delivered together' and the slogan 'A Fair Chance, A Fresh Start.' The agency also acknowledged academic experts who contributed time towards preparing multiple sets of question papers. Results and next steps for the 20 lakh-plus aspirants are now awaited.
