Guwahati/Dimapur, Sep 25 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reached a remarkable milestone by delivering the very first rake of cement at the Molvom railway station in Nagaland, as reported by officials on Thursday.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that this rake, featuring 41 wagons filled with cement sourced from a private company in Telangana, was successfully unloaded on Wednesday.
This event signifies the inaugural rake movement to the Molvom railway station, thereby enhancing rail connectivity and infrastructure within the region.
The Molvom Railway Station is a newly established station located in the Chümoukedima District of Nagaland. It forms part of the Dhansiri (Assam)–Zubza (Kohima district of Nagaland) line, which is intended to be the third major railway station in Nagaland, following Dimapur and Shokhüvi.
According to the CPRO, the NFR remains committed to improving freight services in the Northeast, thereby supporting economic development and sustainable logistics.
The rake transported 2,624 tonnes of cement across a distance of over 2,500 km from Mellacheruvu, Telangana to Molvom railway station in Nagaland, offering industries an economical and environmentally friendly transportation solution that aids in the state's socio-economic advancement.
Sharma further explained that the 82.50 km Dimapur–Kohima railway line spans 2.75 km in Assam and 79.75 km in Nagaland, connecting Dhansiri in Assam to Zubza in Kohima.
This line includes eight stations: Dhansiri, Dhansiripar, Shokhuvi, Molvom, Pherima, Piphema, Menguzuma, and Zubza, along with 27 major bridges, 149 minor bridges, 5 Road Over Bridges, 15 Road Under Bridges, and 20 tunnels covering a total of 31 km.
The Dhansiri–Shokhuvi section, measuring 16.5 km, was inaugurated in October 2021 with passenger services operational from Shokhuvi to Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and Mendipathar in Meghalaya since that time. The newly completed 14.64 km Shokhuvi–Molvom section was commissioned in March 2025, according to the CPRO.
Indian Railways, regarded as the lifeline of the nation, is dedicated to extending its network throughout the Northeast. The successful delivery of this first rake at Molvom showcases NFR’s ongoing efforts to provide reliable rail services to remote areas while minimizing carbon emissions, aligning with its commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2030, Sharma mentioned.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operates across the northeastern states, as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of northern Bihar.
In another development, the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl, has become the fourth capital city in the Northeast to be connected by rail, joining Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar, following the inauguration of the ambitious 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13.
During this inauguration, the Prime Minister also launched three new trains: the Sairang-Anand Vihar (Delhi) Rajdhani Express (weekly), Kolkata-Sairang-Kolkata Express (tri-weekly), and Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Express (daily).
