New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended four operatives of the CPI (Maoist) in relation to the murder case of an Army jawan from Chhattisgarh in 2023, as confirmed by an official on Thursday.

The individuals were named as Bhawan Lal Jain alias Bhuwan Jain, his associate Suresh Kumar Salam, along with Shailendra Kumar Baghel alias Golu and Anduram Salam.

These four overground workers and affiliates of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) terrorist group were implicated in orchestrating the criminal plot to murder Motiram Achala, according to the NIA's investigation.

The suspects were actively involved in facilitating and supporting unlawful activities for the CPI (Maoist), including extortion aimed at instilling fear among the populace.

Achala, who served as a Havaldar in the Northeastern region, was violently killed during a local fair while visiting his hometown in the village of Badetevda in the insurgency-affected Kanker district of Uttar Bastar in February 2023.

The NIA, which took charge of the case from Chhattisgarh police a year later, carried out extensive searches in the following months to locate the perpetrators. Numerous incriminating documents and devices were confiscated during these operations.

On February 28, the NIA arrested Raghu Midiyami, leader of the Moolwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), a prominent figure in an organization linked to the banned CPI (Maoist) terrorist group in a terror funding case in Chhattisgarh.

The MBM is also prohibited by the Government of Chhattisgarh.

Earlier, in November 2023, the Chhattisgarh Police arrested and filed charges against two suspects in the case, which was subsequently taken over by the NIA in February 2024.

The police had seized Rs 6 lakh from these individuals, identified as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the MBM.

Further investigations revealed Midiyami as the leader of MBM. The organization has been involved in the collection, storage, and distribution of funds for the CPI (Maoist), aimed at advancing their anti-India agenda.

As per NIA investigations, Midiyami served as the key individual for local fund distribution to facilitate and sustain protests led by the CPI (Maoist).
