NIA Detains Four CPI (Maoist) Operatives for the Murder of Chhattisgarh Army Personnel
New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended four operatives associated with the CPI (Maoist) in relation to the homicide of an Army jawan in Chhattisgarh, as reported by an official on Thursday.
The detainees have been identified as Bhawan Lal Jain alias Bhuwan Jain, his accomplice Suresh Kumar Salam, along with Shailendra Kumar Baghel alias Golu and Anduram Salam.
These four individuals, who acted as overground workers and supporters of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, were implicated in orchestrating the criminal plot to assassinate Motiram Achala, according to NIA investigations.
The suspects were found to be actively facilitating and promoting unlawful activities of the CPI (Maoist), including acts of extortion aimed at instilling fear in the populace.
Achala, serving as a Havaldar in the Northeast region, was heinously killed during a local fair while visiting his hometown located in Badetevda, in the insurgency-affected Kanker district of Uttar Bastar in February 2023.
The NIA took over the investigation from the Chhattisgarh police one year later, carrying out extensive searches in the ensuing months to apprehend the perpetrators. During these searches, multiple incriminating documents and electronic devices were confiscated.
On February 28, the NIA arrested Raghu Midiyami, a prominent leader of the Moolwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), which is a frontal organization tied to the banned CPI (Maoist) terrorist group, in a Chhattisgarh terror funding case.
The MBM has also been proscribed by the Government of Chhattisgarh.
Earlier, in November 2023, the Chhattisgarh Police had arrested two suspects and filed charges against them in this case, which the NIA took over in February 2024.
Authorities recovered Rs 6 lakh from the two, identified as overground workers of the MBM.
Further investigations indicated that Midiyami was the chief of the MBM, which has been involved in the collection, storage, and distribution of funds for the CPI (Maoist), aiming to advance their anti-India objectives.
According to NIA findings, Midiyami played a crucial role in the local distribution of funds necessary for organizing and sustaining protests led by the CPI (Maoist).
