NIA Executes Raids in Giridih, Jharkhand Linked to CPI (Maoist) Activities

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday executed searches at multiple sites in Giridih district of Jharkhand in connection with a case tied to the CPI (Maoist), as per an official statement.

The NIA disclosed: "Homes and other locations of suspects and over ground workers (OGWs) were thoroughly examined by NIA teams, which confiscated various mobile devices and SIM cards. The items seized are currently under analysis."

"The case RC-01/2023/NIA-RNC stemmed from the apprehension of Krishna Hansda, a Naxal operative affiliated with the banned terrorist group CPI (Maoist). Handa, a member of the Regional Committee of CPI (Maoist), was detained in the Lucio forest area of Dumri PS in January 2023," the statement indicated.

During the inquiry, the NIA, which assumed control of the case in June 2023, uncovered connections of several suspects and OGWs allegedly engaged in providing logistical and electronic support to the CPI (Maoist) in the Parasnath region of Giridih district.

"Today's searches were a component of the NIA's ongoing investigations against these suspects and OGWs," the statement noted.

The investigation into this case is still underway.

The NIA serves as India's specialized counter-terrorism law enforcement agency, authorized to handle investigations concerning terror-related offenses across different states.

This agency is empowered to probe cases that pose threats to the nation's sovereignty, security, and integrity.

Additionally, the NIA has the authority to conduct searches, seize evidence, make arrests, and compile a database of terrorist organizations and their affiliates.

Established through the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 enacted by Parliament on December 31, 2008, the agency was created in the aftermath of the devastating 26/11 terror attacks that struck Mumbai, the nation's financial hub.

Headquartered in Delhi, the NIA has branches in several Indian cities, including Hyderabad, Guwahati, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Raipur, Jammu, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Chennai, and Imphal.
