Did NIA Conduct Raids Across Kashmir Related to Terror Activities?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Srinagar, Feb 2 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed raids at various sites throughout the Kashmir Valley on Monday as part of an extensive inquiry into terrorism-related operations and funding mechanisms.
NIA insiders revealed that the operations occurred early in the morning in areas including Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, and Bandipora.
The agency's teams were supported by local law enforcement and the CRPF during these simultaneous searches at residential and other properties associated with suspected individuals.
“These raids are part of a broader initiative targeting terror financing and support networks active in the Valley,” sources indicated.
In Baramulla district, searches were reported in places such as Bomai Sopore, Zethan Rafiabad, and Model Town Sopore.
Investigations are also ongoing in the main town of Bandipora and the HMT Mustafabad region of Srinagar.
Further official statements and additional details are anticipated.
The NIA has been vigorously pursuing terror-related cases in the designated courts.
On January 18, 2019, the NIA submitted a charge sheet against twelve individuals, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.
It is also contesting bail requests from separatist figures such as Shabir Shah and others.
The agency is pursuing the death penalty for JKLF chief Yasin Malik regarding the murders of four IAF personnel, including Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, in the Rawalpora area of Srinagar city back in 1990. Witnesses have already identified Yasin Malik as the primary shooter in that terrorist incident, with Showkat Bakshi also implicated.
Yasin Malik is currently serving a life sentence after admitting to waging war against the state and being involved in a criminal conspiracy. The Delhi High Court has granted the NIA four weeks as of January 28 to respond to a reply submitted by Malik concerning the agency’s appeal for the death penalty in a terror funding case.
