Northeast Frontier Railway Partners with IRCON for Electrification Maintenance

Guwahati, Dec 27 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking endeavor within Indian Railways, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has initiated a unique program aimed at the upkeep of electrification infrastructure, which includes Overhead Equipment and Power Supply Installation, in collaboration with IRCON, officials disclosed on Thursday.

The NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated that the NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and IRCON International Limited Chief Managing Director H. M. Gupta executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday.

He further mentioned that the MoU will facilitate the maintenance of Overhead Equipment (OHE) and Power Supply Installation (PSI) in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions of the NFR.

The CPRO explained that the electrification projects in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions are advancing swiftly, with the majority of sections already electrified and an additional 425 Route Kilometers (RKM) expected to be commissioned by June of next year.

Due to the rapid rollout of these sections, the need for maintenance of electrification works has surged, necessitating skilled and experienced railway staff for both scheduled maintenance and emergency breakdown support, as electric traction is crucially linked to train operations, Sharma noted.

According to him, the electrification efforts in NFR have reached a new milestone, prompting railway authorities to collaborate with IRCON for maintenance and emergency support over a two-year period, marking a significant advancement in systematic upkeep.

Officials indicated that this MoU will act as a conduit for NFR to engage in knowledge sharing and access cutting-edge technologies and expertise related to the management of electrification infrastructure.

IRCON is a distinguished organization renowned for executing complex infrastructure projects, particularly in challenging terrains in India and internationally since its inception in 1976, the CPRO added.

The NFR operates across the northeastern states and encompasses seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in northern Bihar, managing over 6,400 kilometers of tracks within its jurisdiction.
