Srinagar, Nov 16 (NationPress) An expert forensic team from the NSG visited the site of a tragic explosion at the Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. This incident, which occurred on November 15, resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and left 31 others injured due to an accidental blast.
The area had been secured by the local forensic team for a comprehensive investigation into the explosion.
On Sunday, officials reported that the NSG's central forensic squad was on-site at the Nowgam police station to further the investigation.
The team collected samples and interacted with local forensic science laboratory (FSL) personnel and police officers.
The victims included nine individuals: a police inspector, a Naib Tehsildar, a Chowkidar from the revenue department, a local tailor, along with three members of the FSL team and two crime branch photographers.
The blast took place around 11:20 p.m. on Friday while local police were sampling explosive materials in the presence of an executive magistrate.
This explosive material was confiscated by police during a crackdown on a white-collar crime module in Faridabad and had been transported to the Nowgam police station, as the original FIR in this case was registered at this police station in the Srinagar district.
The incident has elicited widespread sorrow, prompting Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to order an inquiry. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, former Chief Ministers Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti expressed their condolences regarding the accidental blast.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the relatives of those deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured.
Funeral processions for the deceased locals and police personnel saw attendance from hundreds of mourners.
