New Delhi, Nov 15 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha (LoP), Rahul Gandhi, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of 9 lives due to an accidental explosion at the Nowgam Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. This incident coincides with the Congress party's call for an all-party meeting to address the escalating threat of terrorism in the nation.
“The blast at the Nowgam Police Station, which led to the death of numerous security personnel and injured many others, is incredibly distressing and alarming,” LoP Gandhi stated on X.
He further remarked, “Reports suggest that this dreadful accident transpired during the examination of explosives related to the Red Fort attack. I extend my heartfelt tributes to the martyrs and wish for the quick recovery of the injured.”
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat described the explosion at the Nowgam Police Station as unfortunate and dismissed any connection to terrorism, labeling alternative theories about the cause of this tragic event as mere “unwarranted speculation.”
The DGP elaborated, “A substantial amount of explosive material from Faridabad was secured at the Nowgam Police Station. Due to the large volume of the recovery, the sampling of the explosive material has been ongoing for the past two days to send samples for further forensic and chemical analysis.”
Earlier, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the Nowgam explosion, referring to it as a “wake-up call” for the government to enhance Intelligence and anti-terror strategies.
“It is deeply troubling to learn that 9 valuable lives have been lost and 29 individuals injured in a blast at the police station in Nowgam, Jammu & Kashmir. I offer my deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased. The injured must receive immediate medical attention, and sufficient compensation should be provided to the victims,” he stated.
He emphasized that this incident follows closely on the heels of the “cowardly” car bomb attack near the Red Fort in Delhi, asserting that this serves as a “wake-up call” for the Union Government to bolster its Intelligence and anti-terror measures. “They cannot evade accountability,” he added.
“The Indian National Congress stands united with the nation against the plague of terrorism. Given the recent Red Fort terror incident, there is an urgent necessity to organize an all-party meeting to discuss the growing threat of terrorism, which continues to receive support from external forces,” he concluded.
