New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) Following the devastating terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) Pahalgam, which resulted in 16 fatalities and many injuries, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Karra to address the crisis and pledged his complete support to the victims' families.

On social media platform X, LoP Gandhi stated: "Engaged in discussions with HM Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and J&K PCC President Tariq Karra regarding the dreadful Pahalgam terror incident. I received updates on the situation. The victims' families deserve justice and our unwavering support."

The attack transpired on Tuesday in the scenic Baisaran Valley close to the tourist destination of Pahalgam.

Eyewitnesses reported that a cadre of heavily armed militants emerged from the adjacent woodlands and opened fire indiscriminately on civilians, predominantly tourists.

This sudden and brutal strike resulted in at least 16 deaths, including an Intelligence officer, and caused numerous injuries.

The assault has reverberated across the nation, eliciting widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally.

Reports indicate that two to three terrorists clad in Army uniforms targeted horse-riding tourists in the Baisran area around 2:30 PM on Tuesday.

Baisran is a quaint meadow located 3 to 4 km from the Pahalgam market, accessible to tourists via horseback as there is no motorable road leading to it.

Initial inquiries suggest that The Resistance Front, a terrorist organization based in Pakistan and believed to be an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack, marking it as one of the most lethal incidents in the region in recent years.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred with Home Minister Amit Shah, who promptly departed for Kashmir to liaise with Intelligence and security agencies for updates on the terror attack.

Security agencies are currently conducting investigations.
