In his address, PM Modi praised Sujata Bhuyan, a housewife from Sambalpur district, for her determination in becoming a successful entrepreneur in fish farming. Several years ago, she embarked on this journey in the Hirakud reservoir, aiming to innovate and support her family.

“Her initial experiences were challenging. She faced various obstacles, including unpredictable weather, securing feed for the fish, and managing her home. However, her resolve remained steadfast. Within a span of two to three years, she turned her venture into a prosperous business. Today, her success lights a new path for women in her community,” PM Modi remarked.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for acknowledging Bhuyan’s achievements, calling it a significant honor for the people of Odisha. CM Majhi highlighted that Sujata Bhuyan has made impressive strides in fish farming through cage culture in the Hirakud Reservoir, leveraging the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

With an annual yield of approximately 25 to 30 metric tonnes of fish and earnings between Rs 8 to Rs 10 lakh, she has emerged as a source of inspiration for others.

“Sujata’s transformative journey from homemaker to self-sufficient entrepreneur will undoubtedly encourage more women in the state to pursue independence. I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes for her ongoing success,” stated CM Majhi.

In his address, the Prime Minister also highlighted Om Prakash Rath, a youth from Kendrapara district, for his essay focusing on promoting women-led development.

Recently, around 12 lakh young individuals nationwide participated in the 'My Bharat Budget Quest' competition, which aimed to engage youth with the budget-making process.

Following the quiz, about 1,60,000 participants were chosen for the essay competition. Rath submitted his insightful essay on women-led development, which greatly impressed the Prime Minister.
