Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, March 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed his gratitude on Friday towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the notable reduction of ₹10 per litre in central excise duty on both petrol and diesel, aimed at ensuring the steady supply of fuel and essential goods.
CM Majhi characterized this action as a pivotal decision, stating on his X account that India consistently demonstrates wisdom and foresight under the inspiring leadership of Prime Minister Modi, especially in the context of a changing global scenario.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for the significant cut of ₹10 per litre in central excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic use. This initiative will provide immediate relief to families and shield them from global price fluctuations. The steps taken to guarantee the adequate domestic supply of fuel and essential goods further emphasize the Government of India’s dedication to public welfare and stability,” CM Majhi noted.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to remain composed and work with the government to maintain equilibrium.
“I urge all citizens to stay calm, steer clear of misinformation, and fully cooperate in preserving stability. Together, with trust and shared responsibility, we will continue to face these challenges with strength and unity,” he added.
It is important to mention that the government has recently reduced excise duties on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre each, adjusting the rates to ₹3 per litre for petrol and zero for diesel, in a bid to lessen the impact of rising global oil prices.
Additionally, the government has provided exemptions on duties concerning fuel exports and supplies to foreign-bound aircraft. Moreover, the Centre has revoked a previous notification from 2022 and approved customs duty relief on imported aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
This reduction arrives amid concerns of potential price increases due to the global energy crisis, which has been exacerbated by the US-Israel conflict with Iran and the subsequent blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
