Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for farmers' welfare, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday distributed the 20th tranche of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to over 34.85 lakh farmers statewide, amounting to a total funding of Rs 697 crore. This distribution occurred at the ICAR-CIFA campus near Bhubaneswar during the official state-level observation of PM-Kisan Diwas.
This initiative coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide launch of the installment from Varanasi, where Rs 21,000 crore was digitally transferred to 9.7 crore farmers across India.
Speaking to a large crowd of farmers and officials, CM Majhi reaffirmed his government’s dedication to agricultural development and farmer-focused governance.
“Our government serves the people, particularly our farmers. We’ve quickly implemented numerous initiatives for their benefit. Currently, over 50 lakh farmers in Odisha receive Rs 4,000 annually through the CM-Kisan scheme. Together with PM-KISAN, they now receive Rs 10,000 per year,” he stated.
To ensure that no eligible farmer is excluded, the Chief Minister announced a comprehensive drive across all blocks.
“We are committed to including every eligible farmer in the scheme. Funds are being directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts, ensuring complete transparency through digital methods,” he added.
Majhi also stressed the significance of crop diversification and the advancement of complementary sectors like fisheries and animal husbandry to boost farmers’ incomes.
“We must aim beyond merely doubling incomes; farmers’ earnings should grow exponentially. A prosperous India relies on the prosperity of our farmers,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the success of Odisha’s Samruddha Krushak Yojana, wherein farmers receive an additional Rs 800 input assistance per quintal of paddy. Last year, the state disbursed Rs 6,000 crore to 17 lakh farmers during the Kharif season and Rs 1,600 crore to 3 lakh farmers during Rabi.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also spoke at the event, noting that Odisha had recently won the prestigious Agriculture Today Award. He mentioned that the PM-KISAN funds would assist nearly 35 lakh farmers in purchasing seeds and fertilizers during this critical agricultural period.
“The MSP for paddy has now been increased to Rs 3,100, demonstrating our government’s serious commitment to enhancing farm incomes,” he remarked.
He urged farmers to consider adopting alternate crops, organic farming practices, and oilseed cultivation to promote soil health and lower input costs.
