Bhubaneswar, April 28 (NationPress) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Monday, paid his respects with floral tributes to the renowned freedom fighter Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das in honor of his birth anniversary.
Madhu Babu, affectionately known as the Grand Old Man of Odisha, was instrumental in the establishment of Odisha as a separate state based on linguistic identity on April 1, 1936.
“We extend our heartfelt tributes to Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das on this significant occasion,” the Chief Minister stated.
He spearheaded the campaign for a distinct Odisha state.
Majhi highlighted that Madhu Babu consistently advocated for Odisha’s development, safeguarding its interests and enhancing its pride.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that Madhu Babu prioritized comprehensive growth for Odisha, emphasizing the importance of industrial growth.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Majhi noted that the Grand Old Man of Odisha had pioneered several industrial initiatives.
In remembrance of Madhu Babu on his birth anniversary, Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal remarked that Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das remains a beacon of inspiration for all Odia individuals.
Samal emphasized that Madhu Babu was central to the Odia identity and Odia pride.
“Madhu Babu, alongside the common people, dedicated his life to the unification of Odisha through the establishment of a separate state. Achieving this under British rule was a monumental challenge,” he expressed to IANS.
He also noted that Madhu Babu took part in the Swadeshi Movement by founding Utkal Tannery, a shoe manufacturing company in Cuttack.
Tributes were also paid by leaders from the Opposition parties, BJD and Congress, on this special day for the Grand Old Man of Odisha.
“I honor Utkala Gourab Madhusudan Das, a symbol of Odia pride, on his birth anniversary. His unmatched contributions to the formation of a separate Odisha state, industrial advancement, and the preservation of the Odia language continue to inspire us,” stated BJD President and Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik.
Madhusudan Das was born in Satybhamapur, located in the Cuttack district on April 28, 1848.
He was a distinguished lawyer and social reformer.
He initiated the movement for Odisha’s unification by establishing Utkal Sammilani in 1903.
Throughout his life, he was dedicated to the social and industrial progress of Odisha.
